Designer brands have again taken the headline in trends and have focused on the waistline, shoulders which have become far more dramatic, draping tailoring with the colour black providing yet again the backdrop for the designers.

Alexander McQueen made clear statements in stripes in orange and black wool which wound around the body, and boyish style jumpsuits with unusual but striking puff-sleeved harlequin-print silk shirts sewn into them.

Chanel went back in time to the early 1900's with the classic square Chanel shape. The Edwardian styles in tulle and lace adorned the jackets and dresses and the merino pussy-bow knitwear looks adorable in baby pink.

Yves Saint Laurent look was leather, silk, cottons, flannels and puckered nylons and was based upon the 1980's. The designs are perfect for the woman who means business with sexy but business-like pleated knee-length skirts, white silk blouses with billowing sleeves and oversized bow tie at the neck.

Christian Dior look is inspired by the Arabian princesses. The soft and romantic pieces were in shades of light blue, purple, black and scarlet would not look out of place in an Aladdin's cave.
Dior has also been inspired by the 1940's with the waisted jackets and matching pencil skirts.

Fashion sources report a wane for Autumn 2009 in dresses so keep an eye open for all those tulip, bell and bubble shape skirts for everyday and or evening wear, and the pencil skirt for those business meetings.
